What We Spent in Australia

Our Australia numbers are way understated due to the fact that we got free housing for 4 weeks from petsitting! We started off our time here traveling through the country a bit and flew through our budget at an alarmingly fast pace. Safe to say Australia is not budget core! We were able to offset that with 4 weeks of petsitting where we lived in the family’s house for free while they were on vacation. This was perfect because not only did we have free accommodation, we were able to slow down during the holidays where travel is quite expensive and delays and travel mishaps are more common. Best of all, we had the cutest Cavapoo puppy to take care of, free laundry, a kitchen, and we didn’t have to pack and unpack for an entire 4 weeks.

Some notes:

– Lodging was our most expensive category at $1,774. This category would been much higher if not for house sitting for a month in Sydney where we mainly grocery shopped and cooked for ourselves. Our nightly rates for the nights that we did pay for ranged from $43/night to $100/night

– Our second highest category was food at $1,298

– Third highest category was flights at $1,083. Flying from NZ to Melbourne was $455. We had 2 domestic flights in Australia, Melbourne to Cairns ($321) and Cairns to Sydney ($308)
