The first time we were in Japan we did just about everything except eat a lot of sushi. Now that we are back again there were two things I wanted to experience, the first was an omakase and the second was going to this restaurant that had tiny sushi. The name of the restaurant that serves the tiny sushi is Sushiya no Nohachi, a small restaurant in Taito City. The tiny sushi is made on a single grain of rice with the ingredient on top. Now at this restaurant, they don’t have the tiny sushi available to order by itself, you have to order one of the courses and then ask for the tiny sushi with it (this was written/explained on the menu). We both ordered our own course, 1 course is all you need per person we felt like as we were both struggling at the end to eat all of the delicious sushi that came with the course. The price range for a course was around ~5000 – 7000 yen. After we finished our courses the chef brought out the small plate of 8 pieces of tiny sushi. I think as the course was going on he was making the tiny sushi. I don’t know all of the 8 pieces, but of the 8 the ones I can tell you were, octopus, egg, uni, tuna, and then some other fish that I don’t remember.
There was limited seating inside the restaurant, so like many other things in Tokyo, I would highly highly recommend making a reservation. It actually may be required but I am not sure. We tried calling the restaurant and luckily one of the workers spoke a little bit of English to help us make a reservation. If I wasn’t able to make the reservation my backup plan was to ask the hotel front desk to see if they could help call and make the reservation in Japanese. At the restaurant, very little English was spoken, our chef was super kind and would use his translation app on his phone to translate what we were eating into English. He also had a little book that had pictures and translations of what we were eating that he would show us before each piece.
Below you can see a video from our experience. If you are looking for a nice sushi meal with a little twist I definitely recommend checking this place out during your time in Tokyo!
