What We Spent in Germany

Just a reminder we budgeted $45,000 for one year of travel which comes out to about $123/day for the two of us combined!

We got our lowest IHG point redemption yet in Frankfurt, Germany. It came out to ~11,000 points a night (including the 4th night free when booking 4 nights at a time) which was such a steal. We had each gotten IHG cards before leaving for this year of travel.

While we were in Germany, there was a special deal on public transportation – 9 euro for the entire month. This included most busses, metros, and some trains.

Notes:

– Food was our most expensive category at $994. I’m starting to see that it’s usually a good sign when food is our highest category! Food is certainly the most consistent thing about our travels (you can’t avoid eating!) and there’s usually no deals, savings, or points that can be applied to spend on food.

– We only spent $515 on lodging, thanks to our IHG points which covered quite a few nights during our time in Germany. Our per night cost for lodging that we paid for ranged from $60/night – $92/night. We did a few rooms (in other people’s houses) through Airbnb which were really pleasant stays!

– Rental cars were pretty expensive but that’s showbiz
