So clearly, we are a bit over budget and with 8 days to go. There was no catching up at this point since we had already gone over our $45,000 goal. Although it was a bummer, I’d say we did pretty well overall. To say it was the best year of our lives is a massive understatement, and to be able to do it for a little over $48,000 is not too bad!
We traveled pretty fast through India which as we all know, gets to be expensive, even though the country itself is very budget friendly. Ultimately, we decided to not worry too much about the remaining few days’ budget, knowing that we were ticking off one of our biggest budget list countries. After all, we had spent an entire year carefully tracking every penny and forecasting our spending.
Some notes:
– Flying from Bangkok cost $410
– Our second highest category was lodging at $397. Our lodging ranged from $31/night to $67/night
– Through 19 countries (and a quick stop in the US) and 365 days of travel, our daily average spend was at $132.48/day for a total spend of $48,356
